Early on, this tune was overdone as far as production goes. It had a real "commercial" feel to it. But when Clapton stripped it down and started performing it "unplugged" with primarily all acoustic instruments, it became legendary. And that, folks, is the power of acoustic guitar playing. Sometimes it's exactly what's needed. This song NEEDS the acoustic riffs and runs that complement its message and thrust so naturally as in this video. Enjoy!
